Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Verafo collects, uses, stores and shares data when a merchant installs and uses the Verafo app on Shopify.

Last updated: 9 September 2026

1. Who this applies to

This policy covers two groups of people:

  • Merchants who install Verafo on their Shopify store.
  • Buyers whose order and behavioural data passes through Verafo as part of a merchant's store activity.

2. What data Verafo collects

From merchants

  • Store name, domain and Shopify account details.
  • Contact email and billing information.
  • App usage data, including login activity and dashboard actions.

From buyer orders, collected through connected merchant stores

  • Buyer phone number.
  • Order history, including order value, delivery address and order status.
  • Cash on delivery outcome, whether the order was accepted, returned or refused.
  • Purchase behaviour across any other stores connected to Verafo.

3. How Verafo uses this data

  • To generate a risk score for each buyer based on delivery and return history.
  • To build a cross store buyer profile so merchants can see a buyer's reliability across the network of connected stores.
  • To flag high risk orders before fulfilment.
  • To improve the accuracy of the scoring model over time as more stores connect and more order outcomes are recorded.
  • To provide merchants with dashboards, reports and alerts inside the Verafo app.

4. How data is shared across stores

  • Verafo's core function depends on pooling buyer behaviour data across multiple connected merchant stores.
  • A buyer's phone number and delivery outcome history may be visible, in scored form, to other merchants using Verafo, without revealing which specific stores the buyer has ordered from.
  • Verafo does not sell raw buyer data to any third party outside the Verafo platform.
  • Verafo does not share a merchant's individual sales data, pricing or customer list with any other merchant.

Plainly put: a derived score crosses between stores, the same way a credit score does. A merchant's customer identities and raw order history never do.

5. Data storage and security

  • Buyer and merchant data is stored on secure servers with access limited to authorised Verafo personnel.
  • Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
  • Access to the Verafo dashboard requires merchant login credentials, and Verafo does not share these credentials with any third party.

6. Data retention

  • Buyer order and delivery outcome data is retained for as long as needed to maintain an accurate risk score.
  • Merchant account data is retained for as long as the merchant's Verafo subscription is active, and for a limited period afterwards for billing and legal purposes.

7. Merchant rights and responsibilities

  • Merchants can request a copy of the data Verafo holds about their store.
  • Merchants can request their store be disconnected from Verafo at any time by uninstalling the app.
  • Merchants are responsible for informing their own customers, where required by local law, that order data is processed by a third party service for fraud and return risk prediction.

8. Buyer rights

  • Buyers can request that their phone number and associated order history be removed from Verafo's system by contacting Verafo support directly.
  • Removing a buyer's data will reset their risk score across all connected stores.

9. WhatsApp data

Where a merchant uses Verafo's WhatsApp nudges, only structured metadata such as whether a reply was received and how quickly is used. Message content is never read, stored or processed.

10. Changes to this policy

Verafo may update this policy as the product evolves. Merchants will be notified of material changes through the email on file.
